Garage Doors

Your garage door is one of the most important parts of your home. It protects what’s inside from intruders, weather, and natural disaster. Plus, it looks great! You want to take good care of it to ensure that it always works properly.

To keep your door working well, you will need to service it regularly and make repairs when necessary. Knowing what to look for before something goes wrong can help you to prevent many problems. Here are the most common garage door repair Hampton Roads problems and their solutions.

Broken or off track

This is a very common problem with a very easy solution. If you see that your door is not opening or closing properly or has come off the track altogether, check the wheels on the bottom of the door. They should be firmly attached and in good condition with no cracks or damage. Also, check the tracks for bends or other damage that would cause them to move improperly on the rollers. If everything looks fine at this point, try lubricating the tracks a bit by spraying some WD-40 on them and then spreading it around using a rag. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to replace any damaged parts before you can open your garage again completely safely.

Noisy operation

The rollers may need lubrication, or the tracks may be misaligned. Worn-out rollers may need replacement.

Excessively heavy door

The springs may need adjustment. Check the extension springs first. If you have screw-in torsion springs, check for rust and broken strands.

Garage door won’t close all the way

If your track isn’t level, shims placed beneath one end of the track will tilt it up in order to make it level with the other side of the track or jamb. Doors with torsion springs sometimes develop sagging over time, so you can also adjust these springs to solve this problem.
